Children of all ages need to be seeing the Dentist regularly, and this is recommended from around the age of 2 years. It’s important to normalise coming to the dentist for a child, by establishing good oral hygiene practices early on. This allows children to become familiar with the dental environment and encourages building a positive, trusting experience with the dentist.
Many children are anxious about visiting the dentist, particularly if it’s their first visit. Remind yourself that you play an important role in making it a positive and enjoyable experience. Use positive and child friendly terms such as ‘tooth fairy’ or ‘going for a ride in the chair.’ Try to avoid all negative stories/experiences and words such as ‘drill, pull, needle, and hurt.
During the early visits, our dentists may discuss issues such as teething, hygiene techniques, nutritional advice, habits such as thumb sucking and prevention of decay.
Is your child eligible for $1052.00 from the Children’s Dental Benefit Scheme?
The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) is a Medicare funded Scheme. It allows eligible children aged between 2 and 18 to receive up to $1052 worth of dental treatment over a 2-year calendar period. This can be used for check-ups and cleans, x-rays, fissure sealants, fillings, extractions, and root canal treatment.
To check if your child is eligible, or to schedule an appointment call our friendly team on 07 5520 2277. Make sure you have your Medicare card number, as we will need to obtain those details to check if your child is eligible.
